Fantasy Factor

Fantasy Factor breaks the rules when it comes to daily fantasy games. There is no salary cap. You can draft superstars at each position. So, what sets rosters apart in this format? After all, won't everyone in a league pick the same basic roster? At Fantasy Factor, in addition to picking your 12 man roster, you also set "fantasy factors", which are essentially multipliers, on a few of your players that you pick to perform the best. The site offers a variety of match sizes and cost, starting at free and going up to silly money.

Strategy

Because the format is so different on this site, having no salary cap, the strategy is very different as well. There are basically two variables to master when playing on Fantasy Factor: point system and the fantasy factor.

Point System

Obviously, you want to simply pick the players with the best chance of scoring big on a given night. The point system does not include penalty minutes, so get that out of your mind. Also, this system places a strong emphasis on shots on goal. For that, you'll want to stay on top of a player's time on ice trends and especially, their time on the power play. The site makes it easy for you (and unfortunately, your opponents) to see who the top players are by ranking them on the site. However, the rankings only indicate total fantasy points earned over the season. It doesn't indicate points-per-game, so a player who missed some time early in the season, may be artificially ranked low. Check out our "Leading Scorers" tab, where you can sort by total Fantasy Points or FP per game, to make sure you're not missing out on a key player.

In terms of goaltenders, this point system is practically all-or-nothing on wins. On average, a goalie will earn 1 to 5 points when you balance out saves and goals against. With 10 points for a win and 0 for a loss, it's critical to identify winning goalies each night. In other words, you may be better off with an average backup playing a weak team, then going with the top goalie in the league facing a tougher opponent.

Fantasy Factor

When setting your lineup, you have a few decisions to make with your "fantasy factors". First, you have to give a "2X" bonus to either a goalie or a defenseman. This is a no-brainer. Goalies have way more potential for points than a defenseman. Pick your goalie with the best chance of winning for the first factor.

Next, you have one more "2X" and one "3X" factor to assign to forwards or defensemen. Again, if you're spending it on a blueliner, you're not going to win. You're typically going to want to assign both the 3X and 2X to your center, or to Ovechkin.
